This is an ordinary 100 watt 120 volt light bulb. It's sitting in a glass jar with a small amount of water. The water gives the microwave oven a 'load' (a place for the energy to go). It also helps cool the bottom part of the bulb.

| Light bulb in the microwave. The intensity of the
light varied with the position in the oven.
In this experiment, the bulb got no hotter than it would under normal use. |
